Reflections of a Barn with Red Trimming (Cuyahoga Valley National Park)

After stopping at this one overlook point with the Ohio Turnpike and the bridge going over Cuyahoga Valley National Park, I found myself finally looking around and taking in this view with a barn and nearby pond...and then saw the reflection! Amazing! I spent some time finding that "right" location to compose an image with the barn and its reflections while including some of the nearby trees to add to this rural setting right on the edge of this national park. Given the overcast and blah skies, I angled my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward to minimize those skies. I later worked with some control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted. I then added a Foliage and Sunshine CEP filter to give that little bit extra for the final image.

A fluke of angles that allowed me to notice the three modes of transportation used in this area. To the image left is rail-line of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. To the image right and slightly hidden amongst the trees is the Cuyahoga River. Finally off in the distance is the deck arch design of the Brecksville-Northfield Bridge.

Train Tracks Leading off into a Distant Forest (Cuyahoga Valley National Park)

Okay, not actually, but using the leading line with the railroad tracks, it did have that illusion. This is while standing near the Brecksville Station along the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. By angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, I was able to better bring out that sweeping feel and off in the distance with the train tracks. I then worked with some control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted. A setting on a walk bridge over Spring Creek with a view looking to the west. With the little bit of sunlight coming through the mostly cloudy skies, I decided to take advantage of that to capture this image. Composing the image was a matter of finding that angle that allowed me to capture a sweeping view with this creek as it flowed on by me. In a sense I was using it as a leading line that cut through the forest. Metering though took a little more effort in order to find a good enough shutter speed so that I wouldn't blow as many highlights as I thought I might while capturing all the vivid colors around me in the more shadowed areas. I was later able to work with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

This was a stop I wasn't initially able to make (or rather had other things I wanted to do at the time in visiting Blue Hen Falls!), but I made a point while heading back along Boston Mills Rd to stop to take in this view with really tall trees all around me. While I could have pulled back on the focal length to capture more of that forested view, I felt the overcast skies really didn't add to anything I might want to include. For me this image was about the lush, vibrant growth of trees. I decided to include a little bit of the road to my front as I felt there needed to be something added for a sense of perspective in this setting. Tall trees all around are nice, but seeing some sign posts to give a sense of scale that the tall trees are really, really tall trees is another thing.

For the image itself, I was able to work with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted. I then added a Foliage and Sunshine CEP filter to give that little bit extra for the final image.
