Photo Day 4 - Looking from South Rim at the North Rim entrance road at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP. The day before on this road we were delayed by cattle traffic jam coming in and out - much more enjoyable than car traffic jams. eScapesPhoto and I both had to get out of the car and encourage cattle to move out of the way. No humans or cattle were injured during our drive - though steak did sound good for dinner.

Photo Day 4 - Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP is not named for the color of its rock. The canyon is so deep and narrow that sunlight only hits the bottom for a very short period each day, hence it being “black”. This image from Dragon Point on the South Rim was taken just before 10am.

Photo Day 4 - We were lucky to have snow during our visit to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP - also lucky leaves were still falling from trees. Here I liked the leaf on top of the snow with tree branch shadows.

Photo Day 3 - Our first view of Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP from Narrows View, loved the contrast between snow and canyon walls rock of schist and gneiss. No other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls, and depth found in this park.

Photo Day 4 - A tree both eScapesPhoto and I enjoyed from various angles at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP near Dragon Point without clouds. Sadly I failed to count the trunk twists while there, thinking maybe two full turns.

Photo Day 4 - Sunrise with Painted Wall at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP - Painted Wall is the highest cliff in Colorado. From the Gunnison river to rim is 2250 feet, along the bottom are some of the oldest exposed rock on Earth, nearly two billion years old.

Photo Day 4 - So much variety at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP - here I loved the backlight on the ridge while amazed at the trees along the sides of the South Rim near Devils Lookout. This lookout was the most crowded, total of 5 other visitors!

Photo Day 3 - Loved the contrast of Fall and Winter at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP along the Chasm View Nature Trail at the North Rim. The road to North Rim Campground was not plowed, just to add some adventure to the trip.

Photo Day 3 - Early snow arrived in Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP prior to our visit but loved this look on the North Rim road near Balanced Rock. The lack of vehicle traffic helped preserve the formations on the road. Not sure what creates the pattern, would assume it's melting from heat still trapped on the gravel road.

Photo Day 4 - Final hour at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP - we moved to our last location on the South Rim near Gunnison Point. No idea how tall these Douglas Fir trees might be, how old they are or how the root system keeps them on the rocks.
