Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Grand Canyon National Park was established in 1919 on February 26 by by president Woodrow Wilson. A little over 4 million people come to the park annually. The park consists of of the main canyon with many smaller canyons running off it that vary greatly in depth and features. The areas around the Grand Canyon itself are primarily where vistors frequent called the North Rim and South Rim. There are more areas of the park that aren't as easily accesible and are only visited with the assistance of pack animals.

Grand Canyon National Park Temporarily Closes North Rim Due to Mangum Fire

Effective immediately, Grand Canyon National Park has temporarily closed the North Rim until further notice due to the Mangum Fire near the park. The Mangum Fire is located on the Kaibab National Forest and is not within Grand Canyon National Park at this time.

Grand Canyon’s 2020 Star Party will be Hosted Virtually

The 30th annual Grand Canyon Star Party will be held virtually June 13-20, 2020. While the on-site event at Grand Canyon National Park has been cancelled on both rims due to concerns over COVID-19 this year, the park hopes to bring the wonders of the night sky into the virtual realm through a series of video premieres on Grand Canyon’s official Facebook account.

Grand Canyon National Park Warns Visitors to Beware of Wild Rabbit Carcasses

The National Park Service is asking visitors to take caution and not to approach wildlife, especially wild rabbits. Rabbit hemorrhagic disease (RHDV2) was recently detected in a dead jackrabbit found within Grand Canyon National Park, making it the first detected case in the park.

A little rain and storm clouds did not keep visitors from Mather Point, seen on the left side of this image. These days the Grand Canyon is open but visitor services are limited. Even so, the crowds still come to see this magnificent view framed by trees and snags.

My kid's class did a virtual tour of Grand Canyon, so I wrote and asked if they had a virtual passport stamp. What I got, TTM, was this stamp on a postcard of the Grand Canyon Lodge as well as a unigrid.
